The family of former Melbourne organised crime boss Kazem Hamad have told Outlaw Media they intend to appeal the life sentence imposed on him this week by Iraq’s Karkh Criminal Court.

Hamad, also known as Kadhim Malik Hamad Rabah al-Hajami, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Karkh Criminal Court in Baghdad after being convicted of importing large quantities of narcotics into Iraq and Australia. The court also ordered the confiscation of his movable and immovable assets. Iraq’s National Center for International Judicial Cooperation (NCIJC) announced the decision, describing Hamad as “one of the most wanted individuals by Iraqi and international judiciaries” and linking him to transnational organised crime networks involved in drug trafficking, money laundering, murder, kidnapping, extortion and organised violence.
