Hajj Mazhar Hayek was 63, a Melbourne man his community knew as Hajj, and on Tuesday night he was found unconscious inside a home on Heathcote Street, Pascoe Vale. Police say officers got there about 7.45pm on the 29th of September, treated him at the scene, and he died shortly after. A crime scene was instantly established. A 34-year-old Pascoe Vale man, who police say was known to him, was arrested nearby.
Community members and people close to the family allege that man is his son, Abdul Hayek, and that he murdered his father while high on ice and possibly other unknown substances. Police have not named either of them, and they have not said the two were father and son. They also have not charged him with murder. A notice circulated in Melbourne this week named Hajj Mazhar Hayek, 63, of Melbourne, burial still to be set, and asked for prayers for the family.
