I’ve been digging through the Sydney Swans hotel mess with sources from inside the inner sanctum. What follows is the current picture of how a night that started as a celebration of second spot turned into the club’s biggest off-field crisis in years.
After the win over Essendon locked in a home qualifying final, Dean Cox got up in the rooms and told the group they’d be resting a heap of blokes the following week. Then he took about 35 players and staff out for a celebratory dinner in Richmond. They finished up at Harlow. Coaches, including Cox, left around midnight.
