Just before midday on Monday 15 June 2009, a gunman walked up to a cafe on Union Road, Ascot Vale, and shot Des "Tuppence" Moran seven times in front of people doing their shopping. Then he got into a waiting car. Who was driving it would take a jury to decide.

Des was the brother of Lewis Moran and the uncle of Mark and Jason Moran. All three had already been shot dead in Melbourne's underworld killings. And Des was killed on the ninth anniversary of Mark's murder. So who wanted him dead, and why do it in broad daylight?
