It's 5:30 on a Wednesday morning in Port Melbourne. The dog won't stop barking. And by the time it's over, a dad's got a fractured hand, a 17-year-old's in hospital and a machete's sitting in a police evidence bag.

Victoria Police say a 17-year-old boy from the Maribyrnong area allegedly approached a home on Farrell Street armed with a machete about 5:30am on Wednesday 28 October. Residents grabbed him before police got there and took the weapon off him.
